Easyfix Magnetic Secondary Glazing Systems
Magnetic Secondary Glazing – simple, effective and inexpensive
The popular Magnetglaze range of insulation systems uses adhesive steel tape on the window surround, and adhesive magnetic strip that is either stuck to the plastic glazing sheet or to rigid capping that then pushes onto the sheet for a frame-like finish. The magnets clip to the steel to trap air that provides instant heat and noise insulation. These systems are easy to install and use, being lifted off by hand for access to the outer window for ventilation or as an escape route, with quick replacement. The steel tape is white plastic coated, but can be painted if specifically needed to match the decor of a room. The glazing panel will either show the white adhesive of the magnetic strips, or a white or brown trim or capping, depending on the system you choose.
There are two widths of magnets and steel, depending on the size and weight of the pane – standard 13mm wide or the extreme version 25mm wide for extra grip. Customers tend to go for thicker sheet on larger windows, especially where the outer windows are draughty (for stability), hence the need for both strengths of magnets. To look at any of the systems in more detail, click on the panel of choice on this page, where you will find a product video, full measuring and fitting instructions, and the means to buy you magnetic edgings along with made-to-measure solid Polycarbonate glazing sheets.
Magnetglaze uses the 13mm magnets and is ideal for small to medium sized windows, typically with 2-4mm thick plastic sheet. As the appearance is generally unobtrusive, you can either leave the panel as it is or add a Finishing Trim in white or brown to add a little smartness.
Magnetglaze Extreme has 25mm magnets and is therefore aimed at larger, draughtier windows and 4-6mm thick sheet. This also has a Finishing Trim available, if required.
Magnetglaze Pro has the 13mm magnets attached to a smart uPVC Capping profile, that can be mitred in the corners to frame the sheet. The Capping pushes onto and grips the plastic panel.
Magnetglaze Pro Extreme follows the same design but with 25mm magnets and a wider Capping profile.
Magnetglaze Sash is a jointing kit for 4mm sheet which allows larger unwieldy panels to be split into sections for easier handling and partial removal, whilst maintaining the thermal seal.
Hingeglaze is a hybrid product which uses strong steel hinges for convenience and instant access without removing the pane. Magnetglaze Extreme seals the pane to the window surround, and finishing trim in white or brown leaves a smart unit.
The Magnetglaze range works extremely well with plastic glazing sheet, and should not be used with glass for obvious safety reasons. We also recommend avoiding magnetic products outdoors, on opening window lights, on door panels, rooflights or sloping surfaces as this all adds loading to the magnets or risk of the panel dislodging.
