Easyfix Screw Secured Secondary Glazing Systems
DIY Secondary Glazing with permanent fixings
Whilst some windows need to be accessed throughout winter, for ventilation or as a potential escape route for example, there are others for which a fixed panel may work better. This could be for the windows in a bay that are not needed to open, for fitting on the outside of the window if this is a better surface or for security purposes, for mounting on a sloping ceiling or to cover a roof light aperture where it is risky to use a more easily detachable fitting.
Whatever the reason, there is a choice of Easyfix DIY systems you can use that are tried and tested.
Superglaze is an attractive 2 part white or brown system. The base section is part capping, to push onto the edge of the 3 or 4mm plastic or glass sheet. The other part is a channel through which you screw to attach it to the wooden window surround. Once attached, the top is a clip-in cover that hides the screw heads and completes the neat frame-like appearance, having mitred each corner.
This system is very effective for outside mounting because of the secure fixing method – to further enhance the seal made by screwing into position, it is possible to stick a simple foam draught excluder beneath the screw holes and screw through it. This compresses the seal which will also take up any roughness in the fixing surface at the same time. Polycarbonate glazing sheet is recommended for outdoor use over glass or Acrylic sheet because of its significant extra strength.
Clipglaze is a very traditional system that we have been manufacturing every year since the early 1960’s. It comprises a flexible capping in white, clear or brown of 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6mm capacity that edges the plastic or glass sheet, which is then clipped into position using strong turnbutton clips that are screwed to the window surround. The panel can be removed and replaced by manipulating the tops of the clips, and the flexible capping has the ability to accommodate a rough surface as it is pinned to it with the clips. Of all the Easyfix DIY systems, Clipglaze is the most able to accommodate curved or arched windows as the edging strip can easily be shaped to hold a permanently smooth radius.
Clipglaze is available to buy in either its component parts or in 5m and 15m kits that contain all the pieces needed.
Hingeglaze uses strong steel hinges to attach a Polycarbonate glazing sheet to the window surround, giving the convenience of instant access without needing to remove and replace the panel itself. The thermal seal is achieved using Magnetglaze Extreme, and a trim is available in white or brown to complete the smart appearance. Finger pressure is all that is needed to open a Hingeglaze window.
Customer Trustpilot reviews of Easyfix screw systems
“I ordered clip glaze this time for windows I rarely open. Cut exactly to the dimensions given and very easy to install the trim and fix in place. It has made a big difference in reducing noise, reducing drafts and eliminating condensation forming on the single glazed sash windows. I would recommend” (Dan)
“This is a really good company to deal with – fast, efficient and really helpful. They couldn’t be more helpful. Most of all the glazing products tick the boxes. Very happy with my Superglaze install” (Russell R)
“Third time we have ordered secondary glazing and have found that the questions raised have been answered with useful comments and advice. From a personal perspective we would suggest that the superglaze system is a better option over the clipglaze system, whilst the latter is quicker and easier to fit the superglaze results in a better finish with the panel being un-noticable” (Bob T)
“The rooms in which we have fitted the secondary glazing are now condensation free… PERFECT SOLUTION to our problems over the winter. Thanks” (Helen F)
“This is a great product and service. I haven’t fitted polycarbonate secondary glazing before and am amazed at the great results. It cuts down drafts from my sash windows and much reduces heat loss. Easy to fit if you watch the company’s videos a few times. Lightning quick dispatch. Highly recommended” (Huw P)
“Have a toilet window that was very draughty. Last year I started off with the Easyfix Clipglaze but you can’t open that to air the room so this year decided to upgrade to the Easyfix Hingeglaze and Magnetglaze system. All the components arrived quickly and it was easy to install and it looks very smart. Now the toilet is nice and cosy but I can still open the window when I want. Great product” (Amanda)
